About the Ape Project

A production-ready ASP.NET Core MVC framework designed to give developers a massive head start on building secure, enterprise-grade web applications.

What is the Ape Project?

The Ape Project is a comprehensive Visual Studio 2026 solution that serves as an implementation guide and starter template for building modern web applications using ASP.NET Core MVC, Entity Framework Core, and ASP.NET Identity.

Rather than starting from scratch, Ape provides you with a fully-functional foundation that includes user authentication, role-based access control, document management, image galleries, email services, and administrative tools... all following best practices and security standards.

Requirements

To get started with the Ape Project, you'll need:

Visual Studio 2026 .NET 10 LTS SQL Server (LocalDB or Full) Git (optional)
Visual Studio Workloads

During Visual Studio installation, select the following workloads:

  • ASP.NET and web development — Required for ASP.NET Core MVC, Razor, and web tooling
  • Data storage and processing — Recommended for SQL Server tools and database management

SQL Server LocalDB is included with the ASP.NET workload and works great for development. For production, we recommend SQL Server Express or higher.

Get the source code from our GitHub repository

Open in Visual Studio

Open the Ape.slnx solution file

Configure Connection String

Update appsettings.json with your database connection

Run Migrations

Execute Update-Database in Package Manager Console

Launch and Explore

Press F5 to run—your first Admin account is created automatically!
